Happiness of Pursuit Podcast – Episode 10

“Have a vision, take action and keep going.” Jason Shurgot, @MillionaireNotes

How Jason Shurgot quit his job and sold his house to fulfill a lifelong dream of traveling the world.

After looking back at a journal post from when Jason was 23, he saw that he had ambitions to travel. It was something he had looked at a few times and at the age of 32, he had had enough. He knew that the longer he waited, the less likely he would be to follow through on his dreams.

Jason sold quit his job, sold his house, purchased a one-way ticket and headed off on a life-changing adventure.

We connected on Instagram when I asked about how he had such explosive growth and my timing was perfect. He was just about to release a book he wrote while traveling the world called; “Instagram Marketing Guide for Transforming Followers into Dollars.” His book debuted this past week at #1 in “Amazon hot new releases,” #6 on “Amazon Top Sellers in Small Business Advertising,” and #4 on “Instagram Marketing.”

For most people, taking a journey of that magnitude and writing a book while doing it, is something unthinkable and leads to an awesome conversation about taking action to pursue the life you want – not the life you settle for.

What you will learn in this episode of the Happiness of Pursuit Podcast:

  • How to build your skill set while working full time
  • The importance of taking action
  • What it’s like to handle objection from people closest to you
  • How to bounce back if things go wrong

HOP #9: Kelly McDonnell-Arnold’s journey to becoming a Sexologist

Happiness of Pursuit Episode 9

Happiness of Pursuit – Episode #9

Never stop learning & Fill your corner with people who fan your flame. – Kelly McDonnell-Arnold, Certified Sexologist, Owner of Bliss Therapy [CLICK TO TWEET]

Kelly McDonnell-Arnold’s journey to becoming a Certified Sexologist

It was so fun chatting with Kelly today about her journey to become a “Certified Sexologist,” something I didn’t even know was possible – and ironically neither did Kelly! She found out that there was a degree being offered in Australia for “sexology,” which led to one of the most awkward first day at school stories I have ever heard.

Kelly’s journey came from a burning desire to understand why it was so taboo to ask and talk about sex. She took that passion and created one of the most unique stories I have heard, about such a life-changing subject.

Kelly McDonnell-Arnold is a Certified Sexologist with a Masters degree in Sexology. She is also a registered social worker and psychotherapist and Founder of Bliss Individual and Relationship Therapy, which is a specialized private counselling practice located in Uptown Waterloo. Kelly also has an MBA specializing in health care administration and is about to launch Sexology International, which is an online platform committed to providing modern, relevant and reliable sexology information, from an inclusive and sex-positive perspective, with her good friend and fellow sexologist.

In addition to running an effective private practice, Kelly continues to spread knowledge in her field by presenting at a variety of conferences, such as the World Congress for Sexual Health, the University of Guelph Sexuality Conference and a number of other Medical Conferences in Ontario.

She is a Regular on Rogers Daytime and contributes to a number of media channels and magazines.

What you will learn on this episode of The Happiness of Pursuit Podcast

  • In this episode, we talk about how Kelly turned unanswered questions about sex into a career and growing business.
  • She shares one of the best first day of class stories I have ever heard
  • She gives some incredible advice about following your passion and never stop learning.
  • There were some minor audio issues, if you want to skip them, move ahead to 7:00 minutes (that’s also right when the story get’s great!).

HOP #8: Julien Bahain’s battle to the podium with near paralysis and being stranded at sea

Happiness of Pursuit Podcast Image

Happiness of Pursuit Podcast – Episode #8

“Be the best someone you can be! You can be anything you want – follow your dreams.” @JulienBahain [Click to Tweet]

How Olympic Rower Julien Bahain battled near paralysis and being lost at sea to become a World Champion and Gold medalist.

In February of this year, this PanAm Gold medalist was in a wheelchair. Nearly paralyzed, he grinded his way back to the podium in 4 short months! Shockingly, this is not the only life-transforming story he tells in this episode.

Julien Bahain is an Olympic rower, who is ironically scared of the water! Despite this fear, he decided to make an attempt at the world record for rowing across the ocean. Part way through the journey he and his crewmate hit a terrible story – what happened next, and how this near death experience changed him is something you would find in a Hollywood script!

In addition to being an Olympian, he is also a project manager and mechanical engineer.

To see their journey across the ocean, here is a sneak peek. The full version is below in the resource section.

What you will learn in this episode of the Happiness of Pursuit Podcast:

  • What you can accomplish with determination
  • How humility can make you a stronger person
  • How to be yourself and follow your dreams

How Angelika Schriber worked two jobs in order to travel the world in pursuit of her dream of becoming a World Champion Wakeboarder

I am absolutely amazed at the stories my guests have shared, and today’s story is both heartwarmer and motivating. Angelika Schriber has more victories than I could mention without wearing out your scroll bar – but that did not come without a great deal of sacrifice – including working two jobs and going to school just to support her passion.

In this episode, you will learn the rarely told story about her past and what drives her to continue winning championships and propelling the awareness for women’s wakeboarding. All these accomplishments from someone who hated the water as a kid!

HOP #5: How an ordinary couple took an extraordinary journey to raise money for cancer – Meredith and Scott Weldon

Happiness of Pursuit

Happiness of Pursuit Podcast Episode #5

How Scott and Meredith Weldon cycled across the country to raise money for Cancer.

It was an absolute honour to interview two very close friends of mine to share their story, and an epic journey riding over 7,000 km (4,400 miles) raising over $50,000 and making memories that will give you chills (in a great way).

This is one of the most emotional episodes I have done to date and was the exact reason I choose to do this podcast. This ordinary couple took their passion to do something extraordinary if you find something you’re passionate about.

In this episode, Scott and Meredith share the emotional story about the children, the families and the amazing doctors and support staff who are helping cancer patients across Canada. You will learn how these interactions fueled their drive and kept them going.

Meredith and Scott both share encounters as they went across the country including the story of a mom who choose to ride her daughter’s mountain bike, which didn’t fit her and was in incredible pain – but persevered to the end.

Here is an incredible video showing the journey (skip to 20:00 for their segment):

The biggest take away from this podcast, which you will hear at the end is that you need to “just do it” and that “everyone has something they are passionate about.”

How can you help Scott and Meredith?

100% of your donations go directly to the oncology camps; none of which are government funded, and two of which would have closed their doors if it weren’t for Tour for Kids.  Event costs are covered by registration fees and corporate sponsorships so you can be confident that your donation is truly making a difference in the life of a child and not the people who organize the events.  Since 2004, Tour for Kids has raised more than $10 million for these three camps!….let’s make it $11 million!

What really amazed me about Marielle (it’s pronounced ‘Mar-E-L’), was her commitment to owning who she is. Even amidst some criticism, she stayed true to her message, and it’s paying off!I was introduced to this incredibly talented entrepreneur and stay at home mom by my wife, through an article she wrote about “Dad’s and their Daughters.” The article captured my exact feelings about the surprise most Dad’s feel when they find out they are having a baby girl. I don’t want to ruin the surprise, so I’ll put the link to the article in the show notes. She has built a very loyal following while staying true to her beliefs.

In this episode, we talk about what it was like making the transition from the corporate world into entrepreneurship, how her blog helped increase sales for her Easy shop, and how that blog has grown to help women and couples build stronger relationships.
