The Happiness of Pursuit Podcast – Episode #20

Sam Payrovi shares how to build a business by solving a common travel problem

I was introduced to Sam Payrovi, by previous show guest, Maggie Oldham from Episode #12. I am always grateful for introductions, and this week I am exceptionally grateful because the insight Sam shared into how he created an authentically NYC & American Made product is incredible.

One of the most interesting moments of the show (around the 8-minute mark) came when Sam shared his story about how and why he chooses to manufacture his weekender bags in New York. When he decided to make a customized bag, manufacturers, family and friends all told him that it couldn’t be done – well he sure proved them wrong. Not only is he doing it, but received an A+ rating from Men’s Journal in the process.

Sam also talks about how starting Saintly, has lead to a new endeavor, “Custom Consortium,” which is going to be a game changer!

He gives away so many gold nuggets for entrepreneurs throughout the show.

What you will learn on this episode of The Happiness of Pursuit Podcast:

  • How to build a business and defy the odds (and your critics) by believing in your dream
  • The importance of aligning your passion with a business in that field
  • How to make a massive career shift (from Investment Banker to Manufacturer and eCommerce Entrepreneur)
  • The importance of ‘wearing many hats’ when you first start your business

More about Sam Payvori and Saintly:

As an avid traveler, for both business and pleasure, I could never find the perfect piece of luggage. I would search stores throughout my trips, airline magazines on flights, SkyMall, and every other place I could think of. What I realized is that we all travel differently. We take different length trips, go to different places, and need to bring along different items.

Our luggage should reflect how we travel, working to simplify our adventures, instead of complicating them by forcing what we can and can’t take. The trip that I personally found to be the most difficult to travel for was the weekend trip, especially when I needed to take my laptop with me. Who wants to take an rolling carry-on and a laptop, just for a quick weekend?

I founded Saintly so that we can all customize a bag that is unique to our individual journeys.
